Binaural prosthetics or why a person might need two hearing aids

A human having two ears is how they’re supposed to be. Information is sent to the brain from different sides and if you have hearing problems in both ears, it is recommended to select hearing aids for both ears in order to fully capture the sound from both the right and left. By wearing the device only on one ear, you maintain hearing and intelligibility on it. At the same time, the second ear continues to hear worse and may gradually lose the ability to distinguish sounds. If a person is given the opportunity to evaluate the quality of hearing perception using one or two hearing aids, most people with bilateral hearing loss will prefer two hearing aids. Those who use two hearing aids are naturally more satisfied with the results as they understand speech significantly better than those who use only a single device.
A person with two hearing aids has easier time perceiving sounds selectively. This means that they can easily focus on one sound or another. Binaural prosthetics guarantees more confident participation in group discussions, when communicating with several people at once. This is especially important for hearing-impaired children studying in schools and other educational institutions.
Moreover, listening with both ears makes all sounds more natural and comfortable. Thanks to this, it is easier for the listener to achieve an optimal balance of volume and high sound quality. Thanks to binaural hearing, a person can feel safer and more confident, being more aware of the surrounding environment. With two hearing aids, a person can quickly decide which way to turn or go, for example, if a vehicle is approaching. The latter circumstance is especially important for safety.
